4KUniverse, an Ultra HD general entertainment channel in North America, is tapping Accedo to help launch its 4K SVOD service on Amazon Fire TV.
4KUniverse is currently available across linear, cable and satellite TV, and beginning in May, the service will offer UHD TV series, movies, documentaries and sports on Fire TV.

The scalability of Accedo’s cost-effective Videa solution offers flexibility as we grow our subscriber base and ensures a consistent, 4K Ultra HD video experience at all times. We’re excited to deliver 4KUniverse to 4K TV owners nationwide via Amazon Fire TV,” said Matthew Mancinelli, CEO of 4KUniverse, in a statement.
4KUniverse is one of the channels included in 4K trials SES is performing with Frontier Communications and various cable operators.
“We are optimistic that SES’s innovative, pre-packaged Ultra HD solution will allow for a smooth transition of Ultra HD delivery to Frontier subscriber homes nationwide,” said Steve Ward, senior VP of video technology & content for Frontier Communications, in a statement.
“MVPDs across the country have been extremely impressed with our Ultra HD channel lineup and how satellite is enabling them to leap frog to the latest transmission technologies in order to accelerate the delivery of Ultra HD to their subscriber homes,” said Steve Corda, VP of business development for SES in North America, in a statement.
4KUniverse will is using Accedo’s Videa publishing platform to assemble and manage its customized video application. Videa said that SVODs like 4KUniverse can deliver content and UI changes to every supported device without having to rewrite code.
