The EPIX TV Everywhere app is coming to Amazon Fire TV.
In a press release, EPIX painted the device compatibility news as an expansion of the premium channel’s ongoing work with Amazon.
“Amazon and EPIX share a common vision to revolutionize the way people can enjoy content through new platforms, screens and devices,” said Mark Greenberg, president and CEO of EPIX, in a statement. “From Alexa to AWS (Amazon Web Services) to Fire tablets and today Fire TV, we are now working with Amazon across numerous technology fronts and are excited to continue to innovate together on new media experiences for our customers.”
EPIX is also working on what it calls a “first-of-its-kind” mobile app that will allow users to cast via Wi-Fi EPIX content from Android and iOS devices to their Fire TV or other connected TV devices. Fire TV will be one of the first platforms enabling EPIX Cast.

For EPIX, adding its app to Fire TV marks another significant device compatibility move made this year. In February, the network announced it would launch its app on Apple TV.
In addition to Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, Epix’s TV Everywhere app is already available on Xbox, PlayStation, Android devices, Android TV, Chromecast and Roku.
As EPIX expands distribution for its TV Everywhere app, the ownership of the network is up in the air. In April, MGM announced it would spend $1 billion to buy out Viacom and Lionsgate’s shares in the network and take sole ownership.
"The addition of EPIX provides MGM with a premier distribution platform that complements our strong stable of new and library content in both film and television. The acquisition creates increased revenue diversity, new opportunities for growth, and earnings accretion for the benefit of stockholders," said Gary Barber, chairman and CEO of MGM, in a statement.
