The American Cable Association said it booked Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) to speak at its Washington Summit on March 13.
Scalise, who is a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is a big supporter of retransmission-consent reform, one of ACA's biggest lobbying causes. He is the chief sponsor of the Next Generation Television Marketplace Act, a bill that proposes repealing the retransmission-consent provisions that are contained in the 1992 Cable Act.
ACA CEO Matt Polka said in a prepared statement that Scalise "possesses a firm understanding of today's video and broadband marketplace, and we appreciate that he understands the needs of the independent cable community."
The lobbying group for small and mid-sized cable operators has also recruited FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai and Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.) to speak at its annual conference.
