CableLabs has cancelled its 2018 Winter Conference and will instead host one of its Inform[ED]-branded events in Lisbon, Portugal, according to numerous sources attending the research consortium’s winter event in Orlando, Florida, last week.
CableLabs is not confirming or commenting on this decision, which was first reported by Multichannel News.
Speaking to FierceCable, an individual with close ties to cable industry events corroborated the Multichannel report, which indicated that the Winter Conference probably won’t return to the schedule after 2018.
CableLabs Summer Conference, scheduled for August 6-9 in Keystone, Colo., appears to be on schedule and unaffected by change.
The schedule and speaker lineup for next year’s Lisbon Inform[ED] event hasn’t yet been announced. The next Inform[ED] is set for April 12-13 and will focus on IoT security and connected healthcare.
CableLabs Winter Conference is close to press and Inform[ED] isn’t. Beyond a move to a more open forum, the shift also reflects a more international focus by CableLabs, which merged with Cable Europe in 2013 and is now seeking to embrace European constituents such as Altice.
