Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) struck a deal with Hertz that will allow the MSO to pitch discounts on rental cars to subscribers who order a triple play of digital cable, high-speed Internet and phone service.
The company said Friday that it added Hertz discounts and free upgrades to its Optimum Rewards loyalty program. In addition to discounts on car rentals, the marketing pact lets Cablevision offer free membership in the Hertz Gold Rewards program to subscribers through June 30.
The MSO, which faces stiff competition in the New York metropolitan area from Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) FiOS TV, offers several other discounts through Optimum Rewards, including tickets to movies from Clearview Cinemas, which is owned by Cablevision. While Optimum Rewards may not prompt a subscriber to drop Verizon to order Cablevision, the program could help Cablevision retain customers.
