CBS Corp. (NYSE: CBS) launched an app for Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPad and iPhone that lets viewers watch complete episodes of entertainment programming, but it doesn't include access to Big Bang Theory and The Mentalist--two of its most popular series.
The Eye Network said the ad-supported app offers NCIS, The Good Wife, CSI, How I Met Your Mother, soap opera The Young and The Restless and The Late Show with David Letterman. While daytime and late-night shows will be available within 24 hours after their broadcast, the network said it will distribute most of the primetime programs eight days after their broadcast.
CBS does supply Big Bang Theory to Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and other pay TV distributors for their video-on-demand platforms. Comcast said last week that the sitcom was its most popular VOD program in 2012.
CBS said it is also developing similar apps for Android phones and tablets.
