Even as Google TV sits in the time-out corner trying to figure how to right what's gone wrong for its interactive TV play, its competitors in the over-the-top video space are dancing around the classroom--or in this case the CES show floor.
Boxee used the Las Vegas extravaganza to announce a deal with CBS where the big eye lets the little box purveyor sell episodes of its programming later this year. On another part of the floor Yahoo! announced Connected TV partnerships with CBS, ABC, Showtime, Ford, Mattel and the Home Shopping Network. The new apps, which will react to programming and offer appropriate content, are aimed at television programs.
Russ Schafer, director of product marketing for the Connected TV group called it "the next stage of where television is heading." A Boxee statement called the CBS relationship a "major step for us."
