Cox Communications may be considering a new brand for its advanced digital services along the lines of Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA) Xfinity and Cablevision's (NYSE: CVC) Optimum products, according to trademark applications it filed recently.
The MSO filed trademark applications for the brands Contour, Intu and Joya on Feb. 26. Cox would like the right to use the brands for cable, phone, Internet and mobile video services, according to the documents it filed at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Cox may also be looking at marketing cloud-based services to businesses similar to products offered by Comcast, Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and other MSOs. On Feb. 27, Cox filed a trademark application for the brand Essential Cloud, which the company said it would like to use for "Computer services, namely cloud hosting provider services in the fields of real estate, hospitality, and retail services."
Officials at Cox also recently filed a trademark application for the brands Flare and My Flare, which the company said could be used for an interactive video service.
A Cox spokesman didn't respond to a request for comment Tuesday about the trademark applications.
