New entertainment network FXX will count 72 million subscribers when it debuts on Sept. 2, Fox Networks said Tuesday.
Fox, which flipped the switch on national sports network Fox Sports 1 on Saturday, is converting Fox Soccer Channel to FXX on cable systems with more than 50 million subscribers. It used a similar strategy to gain wide distribution for FS1, which occupies channel space previously assigned to auto racing channel Speed. It has also rebranded Fuel TV, its extreme sports network, as Fox Sports 2.
With much of the sports programming Fox ran on Speed and Fuel TV moving to FS1 and FS2, FXX, a spinoff of general entertainment network FX, will focus on comedies. Its lineup includes "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," "The League" and late-night program "Legit." Fox said it'll also launch an animated comedy series on FXX early next year.
