Frontier hires Amazon’s AWS Elemental for Vantage TV video processing

Frontier Communications
AWS Elemental will handle video processing for Frontier’s IP-based Vantage TV video platform.

After paying $500 million for Portland, Oregon-based OTT services company Elemental two years ago, Amazon announced that the unit, rebranded as AWS Elemental, has booked Frontier Communications as a client.

AWS Elemental will handle video processing for Frontier’s IP-based Vantage TV video platform.

“We are optimistic that Elemental’s multi-codec support and evolving software solutions for on-premises and cloud-based deployments will help us deliver high-quality video capabilities such as Ultra-High Definition even in remote broadband markets,” said Steve Ward, senior VP of video technology and content, in a statement.

Frontier’s VOD library is being transcoded using AWS Elemental Cloud, Amazon said. And the AWS Elemental Delta video delivery platform is being used to package and facilitate digital rights for the Vantage TV multiscreen app.

AWS Elemental unified headends support video processing in local markets and national channel video processing at Frontier’s super headend, as well as Frontier TV support of streaming content to consumers’ smartphones, tablets and other personal devices.

“With this initiative, Frontier is creating a next-generation IPTV platform with software-defined video solutions that are flexible and scalable,” added Dan Marshall, senior VP of field operations for AWS Elemental.
