Time Warner recruits NBC veteran Jeff Zucker to run CNN Worldwide

Four months after Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) CEO Jeff Bewkes said the media giant was determined to fix all-news network CNN, the company named former NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker president of CNN Worldwide.

Zucker, who was executive producer of NBC's Today show before taking management positions at the network and its parent company, resigned from NBCU after Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) acquired the company in 2010. He is currently executive producer of Katie Couric's syndicated daytime talk show, but will leave that post before joining CNN full time in January. CNN said Zucker will report to Phil Kent, chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting System.

CNN is currently the third-ranked all-news network, trailing MSNBC and Fox News Channel. "We are not satisfied with CNN's rating performance and we are focused on fixing it," Bewkes told analysts on the company's second-quarter earnings call in August.

In addition to running CNN and Headline News, Zucker will oversee CNN's international news networks and multi-platform video distribution.
