Narrowcasting and DLNA: Seamless IP video services to IP-enabled devices within the home today

BigBand will demonstrate an IPTV application that reuses existing narrowcasting technology to provide IP video services to IP-enabled devices within the home, using the Digital Living Network Alliance® (DLNA) approach to access VOD, Broadcast TV, and Internet video streams. The approach gives operators the flexibility to leverage existing infrastructure shared across multiple services with substantial time-to-market advantage. This IPTV application gives operators the ability to reach further into the subscribers home since the transport is IP vs. RF, a near-term option for migrating the network from MPEG-2/RF to MPEG-4/IP, and operational tools that combine RF (SDV) and IP (SDV) viewership, capacity management and transport. The demonstration will highlight video streamed to the Apple iPad and Sony PlayStation, both of which serve as a control point and a video player. As part of the user experience, a guide will be presented which includes channels, on-demand, and personal content in the cloud such as photos. Additionally, the demonstration will stream VOD and broadcast TV to an IP STB.

BigBand will be showcasing multi-platform IP video delivery, meeting ever increasing bandwidth demands for converged video services at the edge, and extending SDV infrastructures to tap new revenue opportunities in advertising. Demonstrations will bring together BigBand's leading  vIP PASS^TM, Converged Video Exchange (CVEx^TM), SDV, and QAM technologies to drive IP video convergence. 

Demonstration 1:  Next generation multi-service edgeQAM platform, designed to simplify and address bandwidth demands for converged video service delivery at the edge, and combines BigBand's digital video networking leadership and innovation in advanced media processing, bandwidth management, and control plane technology

Demonstration 2:  Innovative IPTV application to deliver managed video services to a broad range of "out-of-the box" IP-enabled CE devices such as game consoles and mobile tablets, in addition to PCs, and addresses the MSOs' need to meet the demand for multi-screen IP video delivery and to monetize these new service offerings

Demonstration 3:  This demonstration extends the value of existing BigBand SDV infrastructure with an innovative EBIF enhancement that makes addressable advertising more affordable to local advertisers and thereby providing more ad revenue opportunities for MSOs - without requiring any changes to the STB or allocating additional spectrum.
