Q3 2011 results: U.S. pay TV providers
The following table details the third-quarter results for U.S. cable MSOs, satellite TV distributors and telephone providers that market subscription video services. MSOs are ranked by their total revenues for the quarter.
While all incumbent cable MSOs and Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) lost video subscribers during the third quarter, DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV), Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) FiOS TV and AT&T's (NYSE: T) U-verse TV generated strong subscriber growth.
DirecTV's second-quarter expansion into Latin America played a role in its results, and MSOs offering high-speed broadband Internet were able to continue building subscriber numbers on that end. Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) once again posted a better than 50 percent revenue gain year-over-year. And Cablevision (Nasdaq: CMCSA) made a significant number of adds to its voice subscriber column compared to Q2 2011.
IPTV provider AT&T, with its U-verse offering, and Verizon's FiOS service saw continued subscriber gains, though Verizon noted a slowdown in new FiOS TV subscriptions, with just 131,000 new adds compared to Q2 2011's 184,000 additions.
