The juggernaut cable operator rolled out Xfinity this year, a digital offering that tries to meld TV and online viewing--or at least give the appearance that it is. Subscribers can watch programs on demand or record them, or alternatively, log on to Comcast's website and stream programs on their computer.

Like everyone else out there, truly seamless connectivity between the interactive guide and optional control devices is not quite a reality.

For subscribers using legacy STBs, Comcast is deploying an EBIF solution to support interactive applications like Caller ID to the television and requests for information (RFIs), a record reminder and a shop-by-remote feature with Home Shopping Network.
