ACSI: FiOS, DirecTV, U-verse top subscription TV biz in customer satisfaction
Verizon's (NYSE: VZ) FiOS TV was the top ranked subscription TV service in the annual American Customer Satisfaction Index released Tuesday, while Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR) generated the most improvement compared to last year's survey.
Cox Communications was the top-ranked cable operator in the survey with a score of 65. ACSI said Charter scored a 64, up eight points from last year. That made the MSO, which has a new management team led by former Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) executive Tom Rutledge, the most improved pay TV provider.
ACSI said the subscription TV business as a whole improved by 3 percent to a benchmark of 68. "While the boost is good news for cable, satellite and fiber-optic television providers, the industry remains the third worst of the 43 industries covered in the ACSI," ACSI said in Tuesday's announcement.
Verizon also led in the rankings of major Internet service providers with a score of 71. It was followed by Cox (68), and AT&T U-verse Internet and Charter, which both scored a 65. CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) scored a 64, topping Time Warner Cable (63) and Comcast (62).
