Interactive TV vendor ActiveVideo Networks scored a $115 million judgment in a patent infringement suit it had filed against Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ).

It's a big win for ActiveVideo, which had accused Verizon of infringing on four of its patents related to interactive TV services. The company, formerly known as ICTV, said it will seek an injunction that would stop Verizon from "unlawful use" of its technology in Verizon's FiOS TV service.

Backed by interactive TV investor Gary Lauder, ActiveVideo has been pitching cable TV operators a cloud-based architecture for delivering interactive TV content and advertising since the 1990s. ActiveVideo's largest cable customer is Cablevision Systems (NYSE: CVC).

The patent victory against Verizon may give ActiveVideo leverage that it could use to land distribution deals for its CloudTV platform with other cable MSOs.
