Amino pursuing set-top opportunities in Latin America
Vindicating the belief that IPTV is an international phenomenon, leading set-top box maker Amino Technologies is taking its IPTV set-top business south--literally--and pursuing Latin America as a market expansion opportunity.
"There's potential across most of Latin America," the company's chief executive, Donald McGarva, said in a Dow Jones Newswires story.
McGarva said he plans to visit Chile, Colombia and Mexico to confirm that there is, indeed, growing demand among consumers who mirror those in established European and U.S. markets in which Amino is already operating. He also indicated that he would be paying attention to Brazil--a huge market whose high import taxes could potentially stymie any plans to export products. To get around those taxes, McGarva told the publication, he would consider licensing technology into the market.
Amino, which is considered a leader in the IPTV box space, is making money, at least according to its most recent earnings announcement. It is also expanding its base in the United States where, apparently, it is doing better than it is in Europe.
