Boehner speaks up, pans Internet regulation

House Speaker John Boehner, relatively quiet since assuming a position of power in the new Republican Congress, found his voice when it comes to the FCC and its attempts to regulate the Internet.

Calling Internet regulation an example of how the FCC is "creeping further into the free market," Boehner told a group of religious broadcasters in North Carolina, "The last thing we need, in my view, is the FCC serving as Internet traffic controller."

Boehner also took President Obama's State of the Union address to task, pointing specifically to the correlation between broadband and a "Sputnik moment ... that shocks our generation into getting serious. In my view," he said, "America's Sputnik moment is our shocking national debt."
