Cable MSOs should abandon their longtime hands-off approach to invading each other's territories and use the Internet to serve up over-the-top competitive offerings says Boxee CEO Avner Ronen.

"They shouldn't be afraid of cord-cutting. They should encourage it," Ronen said. "They should offer (Comcast's) Fancast (Xfinity TV) and whatever is going to be the brand... to anybody who has a broadband connection."

Ronen's idea was endorsed--in a way--by Jeremy Legg, SVP of business development for Turner Broadcasting System who said he's "agnostic from a distribution standpoint as long as the business model delivers what you want to deliver" and that Turner would be open to supplying programs to a "virtual MVPD (multichannel video program distributor)."
