Here's one to watch. Broadcom, which made its bones supplying silicon for the first generation of cable modems, has agreed to purchase privately held Beceem, a 4G wireless platform provider whose claim to fame is a multimode platform that supports both LTE and WiMAX.

"When combined with Broadcom's 2g and 3G cellular solutions and broader wired and wireless communications portfolio, our 4G products will enable customers to roll out next generation wireless broadband solutions while providing support for existing networks," said Beceem CEO Surendra Babu Mandava in a news release.
