EchoStar's (Nasdaq: SATS) SlingMedia said it stuck a deal with Broadcom to integrate its place-shifting technology into cable set-tops.

The move could one day allow cable subscribers to access content stored on their DVRs from laptops, mobile phones and other Internet-connected devices anywhere in the world, similar to the place-shifting product that is available to consumers that buy a Slingbox set-top. EchoStar and Broadcom said that set-tops powered with Sling Media software will be available by the third quarter, but the companies didn't announce deals with any set-top manufacturers.

Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) began testing Slingbox set-tops last year, offering the product to subscribers in New York City that order its wideband Internet service.
