Cable engineers to mull COAT proposals

Top cable engineers from Brighthouse Networks, Comcast and Time Warner Cable have agreed to "talk among themselves" to determine what steps should or should not be taken to make TV set-top boxes more accessible to people with disabilities. The engineers, along with NCTA policy experts, heard recommendations from the Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT) who focused on making set-top boxes--and especially electronic program guides--more accessible to people with disabilities.

The discussions primarily revolved around H.R. 3101, also known as the 21^st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009. More discussions are expected to be held in the future.
