The cable industry's push to increase broadband speeds and better use bandwidth via DOCSIS 3.0 implementation led to a 23 percent market improvement for broadband cable equipment, according to an Infonetics report.

Jeff Heynen, the report's author, pegged the worldwide CMTS and edge QAM market at $1.62 billion and noted that "2010 ended as the biggest yet for both CMTS and QAM revenue (and) MSO demands for more DOCSIS channels will ultimately boost annual revenue increases."

The improvement happened even though a big year-end equipment push was delayed as MSOs waited for new line cards from vendors such as Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Arris (Nasdaq: ARRS), the report further stated.
