Cable television has been through it before so it will be able to weather the latest hailstorm of over-the-top (OTT) competitors, Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media said during the 38th Annual UBS Global Media and Communications Conference.

"This is just one more transition," Maffei said, predicting that the cable model still has "a lot of life."

Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) Cable President Neil Smit agreed and took it one step further; cable will survive by collaborating with its so-called competition. "They can coexist," Smit said during a luncheon Q&A at the conference. "People want to access their content online or stream it, that's fine with us. That's one of the reasons we put out Xfinity TV, the dotcom site."
