Cable overbuilder launches WOW! Ultra TV, using Arris Moxi Gateway

Arris (Nasdaq: ARRS) said Tuesday that cable overbuilder WideOpenWest has deployed its whole home solution, which includes its Moxi Gateway device and thin client set-tops called Moxi Players.

WOW plans to market the whole home product as WOW! Ultra TV. The gateway, which comes with a DVR capable of recording six programs simultaneously, could help WOW compete with Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) and other cable MSOs.

WOW is one of the first distributors to launch the Moxi Gateway and whole-home solution from Arris. CEO Bob Stanzione said on the company's fourth-quarter earnings call earlier this month that he expected Ohio cable operator Buckeye Cablesystem to deploy the Moxi Gateway "very soon."
