CableLabs says industry's ready for IPv6

In a somewhat unusual move, CableLabs has issued a news release proclaiming that "the cable industry is well positioned to transition to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6)." The pronouncement comes as the world's current supply of IPv4 addresses melts away like ground snow in a rainstorm.

The release also offered words of comfort from CableLabs President-CEO Paul Liao who said the industry has been working on the IPv6 transition for six years and "will minimize the effects of the transition on end users." It added a quote from Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) CTO Tony Werner confirming that the top MSO has been conducting IPv6 field trials and is "currently deploying IPv6 resources so our customers will not be impacted" and Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC-WI) CTO Mike LaJoie stating that the second largest MSO "has long been preparing for the eventual end of IPv4 addresses."

Now if only they can do something about 12-12-12 ...
