Cablevision Systems (NYSE: CVC) has become the latest MSO to start talks with LightSquared. Last week it was reported Cablevision's neighbor, Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC-WI), a Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) partner, was talking with the broadband wireless player which has, among other things, already signed deals with Leap Wireless and Best Buy.

Cablevision, which is not aligned with Clearwire, is apparently talking to LightSquared about expanding its now WiFi-centric wireless offering potentially into the mobile wireless space and LTE via the emerging wireless/satellite broadband wholesaler.

LightSquared needs as many partners and customers as it can get as quickly as it can get them. The FCC has required the provider to build a network that covers 100 million people by 2012 and 260 million people within three years. It is seen in some spaces as directly competitive with WiMAX-centric Clearwire and even Clearwire's lead investor, Sprint (NYSE: S), has reportedly talked with LightSquared.
