Cablevision seeks Apple OK for iPad video

Always pugnacious Cablevision Systems (NYSE: CVC) wants to run an iPad video app but it first needs Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) approval. Once that happens, the MSO said it will launch a feature that gives subscribers iPad access to their full TV lineup and VoD content.

Cablevision is known for pushing the envelope--which it did with a cloud-based remote server DVR (RS-DVR) product--and battling programmers, as was the case with the Fox Network last fall. In this case, it would rather get an OK with Apple before proceeding but, it seems, is willing to proceed without the blessing of programmers who are successfully snipping parts of a smaller Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC-WI) iPad video streaming app.

"We have launched our Optimum App for iPad on Cablevision's campus and in approximately 100 employee homes and it works wonderfully," Cablevision spokesman Jim Maiella told Multichannel News. "The application has been submitted to Apple and upon its approval will be available top our cable television customers."
