Cablevision Systems (NYSE: CVC) won another battle and perhaps its entire war with Verizon (NYSE: VZ) over set-top patents after a U.S. International Trade Communication (ITC) judge tossed out four patent claims the telco had lodged against the MSO. A U.S. district court earlier ruled a fifth claim invalid.

Cablevision claimed a "significant victory" and, in a statement, said that it is "obviously very pleased and will continue to defend ourselves vigorously as the process continues."

Verizon, which claimed that three Scientific Atlanta set-top boxes violated five of its patents, said the fight would go on when the ITC reviews two more patents. A ruling date on those is targeted for Sept. 20.
