CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) has launched digital TV in northern Florida, demonstrating the telco's commitment to television service at a time when another telco, Frontier (NYSE: FTR), is pulling back on its FiOS TV deployments and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is limiting its future rollouts of FiOS to existing franchise areas.

CenturyLink's move also comes at a time when the telco is still examining how it will deal with video in the Qwest serving areas it recently acquired.

The northern Florida IPTV rollout is designed to provide competition for existing cable and satellite operators via a service that also allows subscribers to access and view Web-based sites such as YouTube and Facebook.
