Charter Communications Chairman Paul Allen, worth an estimated $13.5 billion thanks to his role in the co-founding of Microsoft, has pledged to leave most of that money to charity, perhaps setting an example for some of cable's other billionaires.

Allen, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in November, has been treated and "as of now has no current medical issues," according to a spokesman for his investment group Vulcan Ventures.

Another issue that was plaguing Allen and damaging his bottom line was resolved last year when Charter came back out of bankruptcy, leaving him free to concentrate on running his businesses and adhere to the advice of Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates to donate his money to charity.
