Charter wins some, sells some in broadband biz

It's not all bad news all the time for Charter Communications (OTC BB: CCMM), most frequently mentioned as the incumbent provider for broadband-fickle Opelika, Ala. where the townspeople not only agreed to build their own fiber network but recently signed a franchise deal with Knology (Nasdaq: KNOL). The nation's fourth largest MSO has secured a 10-year cable TV license in Grafton, Mass., ending nearly a year of negotiations between the MSO and the Cable Advisory Committee.

For Charter, though, there is never an easy road. The St. Louis-based company will compete head-on with Verizon (NYSE: VZ) for the city's cable business.

Elsewhere in the Charter empire, Marshall, Texas is ready to bid adieu to Charter and welcome CoBridge Broadband which recently acquired the local franchise.
