Broadband wireless provider Clearwire (Nasdaq: CLWR) says it will begin to adopt Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, which could allow it to offer Internet access speeds 10 times faster than its existing WiMAX network.

The company, whose investors include cable MSOs Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC) and Bright House Networks, said it will overlay LTE on most of its existing 4G network. Clearwire says it will also maintain its WiMAX network "for a significant period of time."

Time Warner Cable and Comcast are using Clearwire's 4G network to market broadband wireless subscriptions to their cable customers.
