With AT&T giving up on its attempt to acquire T-Mobile USA for $39 billion, some analysts are speculating that its next big deal could be an acquisition of Charlie Ergen's Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH).

In addition to the potential for AT&T to use wireless spectrum acquired by Dish Network for its mobile products, the company could use Dish's satellite TV service as an alternative to its U-verse TV product.

"Dish could partner with T-Mobile or Sprint to help build a wireless network and offer a satellite bundle of services," BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk wrote in a research note. "It could also sell to AT&T, which would be attracted to its spectrum (assuming the FCC approved a transfer) as well as its pay TV services which AT&T would use to expand beyond its current U-Verse footprint."
