Comcast to launch 3net 3D programming from Sony, Discovery, IMAX
Rather than give 3net a dedicated channel, Comcast said it will run 3D programming from 3net on its Xfinity 3D channel. The MSO said it will also run video-on-demand programming from 3net.
The agreement marks one of the biggest distribution deals yet for 3net, which debuted in February 2011. It comes about three months after 3net's owners announced that they would form 3net Studios to increase the amount of original programming available on the network.
"With 3D televisions already in nearly 25 million U.S. households--and industry predictions of dramatic in-home 3D growth in 2013--today's announcement further solidifies our ongoing commitment to meeting the ever-growing consumer appetite for high-quality, original 3D television content," 3net CEO Tom Cosgrove said in a prepared statement.
