Comcast promotes Avgiris to EVP and GM of data and communications services

Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) said Thursday that it promoted Cathy Avgiris to EVP and general manager of its data and communications group.

Avgiris, who has worked at Comcast for nearly 20 years, will be charged with leading its Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Voice services. Comcast said she will also be responsible for marketing new double-play and triple-play offers to customers through its joint promotions with Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ), and that Avgiris will lead its expansion of WiFi hotspots.

Avgiris will report to Comcast Cable Communications EVP and COO Dave Watson.

"Cathy's extraordinary leadership has been instrumental to Comcast's growth and success," Comcast Cable Communications CEO Neil Smit said in the announcement. "She has helped us become the largest broadband Internet service provider in the U.S. as well as the largest competitive voice provider to the phone companies," he added.
