Sometimes stories from around the world can be wedged together to create a universal thread. A story in Broadband Reports that Philadelphia-based Comcast is ready to shake up speed tiers for DOCSIS 3.0 subscribers comes at pretty much the same time that a BBC executive in London was telling an audience that Internet TV will probably lead to higher broadband prices and split speed tiers.

In the Comcast case, sources told the always-reliable broadband newsgatherer that the MSO is looking at an economy tier of 1.5 Mbps down 384 Kbps up (can you say Slowskys?); Performance at 12/2; Blast a 20/2 and Extreme at 50/10. the source also said that it's likely a 105/15 package will be in "half the footprint by mid-next year."
