Cox tabs thePlatform for online service as Charter activates 1 million EBIF boxes

Cox Communications will use thePlatform for back-end video management for its Cox TV Online video initiative. A news release said that Cox will expand its use of thePlatform's mpx video publishing system to maintain the integrity of embedded custom video players on Cox's website.

The goal is to move things along as efficiently as possible as subscribers move across multiple screens, said Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform. "With mpx Cox subscribers can watch premium video instantly while the business policies and financial obligations between Cox and programmers are maintained."

In other cable news, Charter Communications (Nasdaq: CHTR) said it has activated Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) interactivity for 1 million Cisco digital set-tops or about 20 percent of its customer base

Charter used Concurrent Computer and FourthWall Media to validate the system and roll it out.
