DirecTV praised for going whole home with DVR service

DirecTV, as promised, has launched a whole-home DVR service for an additional $3 per month, providing subscriber with the opportunity to record DVR programs on one unit and play them back on any of 15 TVs in the home. The service also lets subscribers record up to four programs at one time.

The system drew praise from Shane McGlaun, writing on the SlashGear site, who called it "very cool" but did fairly note that "if you lack the DVR receiver it will set you back $199 and each room needs a standard HD receiver to work."

Cool but limited, we'd say.
