Discovery and News Corp. veteran Liguori named CEO at Tribune
Tribune owns newspapers and 23 TV stations and has had public battles with cable and satellite affiliates involving retransmission consent fees. In the last year, DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) and Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) experienced blackouts of Tribune stations that resulted from disputes with the broadcaster. Tribune also supplies pay TV providers with TV listings data for their interactive program guides.
DirecTV founder and former CEO Eddy Hartenstein was named publisher and CEO of Tribune's Los Angeles Times in 2008. Tribune said on Thursday that Hartenstein will continue to lead the newspaper and act as a special advisor to Liguori. It also named Bruce Karsh chairman of its board of directors.
