Dish adds movies and TV series to iPad app
Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) said Monday that it will allow customers to access TV series and movies through Apple's (Nasdaq: AAPL) iPhone and iPad. Subscribers who take its $10 monthly Blockbuster @Home service will be able to watch video through the app, and customers who order HBO, Showtime and other premium networks will be able to watch movies and TV series through the app.
Dish rivals such as Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and Cablevision (NYSE: CVC) already distribute apps that allow their subscribers to access TV series and movies through the iPad and iPhone. The company made the announcement Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show, where it is also expected to unveil a new multiroom DVR service called Hopper.
