Dish Network steps up marketing efforts for launch of Hopper with Sling

Ad focuses on device's commercial-skipping abilities

Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) today kicked off a new ad campaign to support the launch of its new "Hopper with Sling" multiroom DVR.

The satellite TV provider launched the Hopper DVR last year. In January, Dish announced that it would add place-shifting software from Sling Media to the DVR, which would allow subscribers to watch programming stored on their Hopper DVRs on PCs, tablets, smartphones and other devices connected to the Internet.

Dish isn't focusing on Hopper's place-shifting capabilities in its ad campaign, though. Instead, its new commercial touts the device's ability to automatically remove commercials from primetime programming with the Hopper's AutoHop function. Its new TV spot features Dish's "Boston guys" paying their "last respects" to commercials.
