Divided House committee votes to repeal net neutrality

That didn't take long: By a 30-23 party line vote, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to repeal FCC net neutrality rules and sent the measure to the full House to further cripple the ability of the federal agency to control what happens on the Internet.

Of course, as with all things political, this may be more rhetoric than action because a final repeal would require President Obama's signature, and he supports the FCC. Still, the vote, recorded amid ongoing political rancor, showed that newly elected Republican representatives are serious about corralling the FCC.

Democrats who supported net neutrality--or at least opposed plans to cut it off--accused their Republican counterparts of turning a "deaf ear" to Americans who "overwhelmingly oppose practices which limit a free and open Internet," in the words of ranking member Rep. Anne Eshoo.
