HD  and IPTV service is coming to southern Vermont, as EchoStar's Satellite Services division will deliver its ViP-TV service to Duncan Cable, a company with about 2,800 customers in and around Wilmington and West Dover.

Using the ViP-TV headend, Duncan will be delivering 45 high-definition TV channels to subscribers. The platform also enables the company to provide more than 250 broadcast-quality TV and music channels in MPEG-4 format.

"ViP-TV's IP-encapsulated, high quality HD channels easily integrated with our IPTV SDV solution, allowing us to expand our range of programming," said Cliff Duncan, owner of Duncan Cable TV. "It cost-effectively fulfills our need for both HD and IPTV, giving us a competitive edge in the marketplace."

EchoStar has been working to fill an IP niche left behind by SES Americom's IP-Prime offering, a wholesale IPTV service shut down at the end of July 2009. The ViP-TV offering targets independent telcos and small cable operators.
