Eclectic witness list expected for Comcast-NBCU hearing in L.A.

An eclectic mix of industry insiders and academics will bear witnesses next week when the House Judiciary Committee holds a hearing about the Comcast-NBC Universal merger in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reported. It's uncertain yet whether any of LaLa Land's greater or lesser celebrities will also be on hand to grab some face time before the committee chaired by Rep. John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat. One thing's certain, local Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a sometimes sharp opponent of the deal who pushed for the Left Coast hearing, will be there to make her opinions known.

The L.A. location marks the first time that Washington, D.C.-centric folks take their show on the road. Next month the FCC will open a similar hearing to the public in Chicago.

Speaking of the Comcast-NBCU deal (as we almost always are), it's also reported in Broadcasting & Cable that the National Black Caucus of State Legislators and the National Conference of Hispanic Legislators have both thrown their support to the deal with the NBCSL calling it a "positive development" for the African American community.
