An alleged radical environmentalist with his own website, Save the Planet and a perceived grudge against the Discovery Channel was killed after a four hour hostage standoff at the channel's building in Silver Springs, Md.

According to reports, the suspect James Lee had a history of protest against Discovery, which the channel knew about but dismissed because the threat was considered over-the-top. "We certainly were cognizant and aware of him, but we did not take his demands or threats seriously," said Discovery Channel spokesman David Leavy.

Lee died when suspected explosives strapped to his were detonated by police gunfire. He entered the building and took hostages and drew police gunfire when he pointed his own gun at one of the hostages.
