Looking to allow viewers to use mobile phones and tablet computers to interact with TV programming, interactive TV firm Ensequence is teaming up with automatic content recognition (ACR) technology company Zeitera.

According to an Ensequence release, Zeitera said Monday that they are integrating their technology to allow programmers and advertisers that use the Ensequence iTV Manager platform to create "two-screen experiences" for TV shows and commercials. Zeitera's ACR technology would allow a programmer or advertiser to synch content running in a show or ad to mobile devices.

Cable programmers are hoping that ACR technology can make interactive programming more accessible for millions of subscribers. Today, most subscribers have to press several buttons on their remote controls to respond to interactive ads, or to vote on an interactive poll in a TV show.

The ACR integration would allow a viewer to more easily respond to an ad on television by using a mobile phone or tablet, Ensequence said. It would also be able to use ACR apps for social TV check-ins and t-commerce applications, and to allow viewers to get more information about a program on TV by delivering content to their mobile devices.
