ESPN outbids NBC for Wimbledon 2012

Cable TV operators should find it easier to keep at least tennis fans from cutting the pay TV cord, after ESPN won the rights to air Wimbledon 2012 coverage over NBC, which had aired the international sporting event for more than 40 years. The deal will put all live coverage of the event on cable TV for the first time, which may cheer most cable TV providers, though NBC owner Comcast may feel bittersweet.

Can you imagine a 130 mph serve coming at you in 3D? Curiously, ESPN has not specified 3D coverage for next year's tournament, but it will offer much more live coverage--about 140 hours--than NBC had been televising.
