Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) took the unusual step of bringing service trucks and customer service representatives to a public meeting in Savannah, Ga., Monday night, where dozens of customers aired grievances about the nation's largest cable MSO.

Monday's meeting at the Savannah Civic Center is the first of four public forums the city has scheduled this week, after it said it received more than 150 complaints about customer service, including cancelled appointments, damage caused to homes by installers and pricing of its programming packages. Comcast has also dispatched a team of door-to-door representatives to Savannah in hopes of improving its image in the community.

The Comcast customer service issue is a big local story in Savannah, and the public meeting was covered by two local TV stations that included segments in their newscasts. While Comcast faces video competition in the city from DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) and Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH), city officials are pushing AT&T (NYSE: T) and other providers to offer service there. The company appears focused on resolving the Savannah complaints, with representatives at Monday's meeting addressing some of the complaints before some customers left the civic center.
