FCC said ready to OK Comcast-NBCU merger

The FCC will OK Comcast's (Nasdaq: CMCSA) $30 billion takeover of NBC Universal by a 4-1 vote as early as today, according to the Washington Post.

Quoting "sources familiar" with the FCC's machinations, the newspaper said that the deal will be opposed by Democrat Commissioner Michael Copps who has "consistently expressed concern that the joint venture would harm the public interest."

The FCC would be the final piece of the puzzle since the article also noted that the Justice Department has already approved the deal in antitrust review. Conditions attached during that review will be attached to the merger right after the FCC action, the newspaper said.
